Welcome To Plathville: Nathan Meggs’ DUI Controversy Explained

Welcome To Plathville's Olivia Plath has featured her family on the series, like her brother Nathan Meggs whose DUI controversy has been confusing.

    •  Olivia Plath’s brother Nathan faced a DUI controversy and was charged in March 2022 for driving under the influence.
    •  Nathan, who is younger and more stuck in his beliefs, had a difficult time adjusting after breaking away from the strict religious upbringing of their family.
    •  Ethan and Olivia posted a cash bail bond for Nathan, showing their support and commitment to taking care of their family, despite his mistakes.

Welcome To Plathville season 5 has been a high-stakes season already, especially after Olivia Plath’s brother Nathan Meggs’ DUI controversy was explained in a recent episode. Olivia, who’s married to the Plath’s oldest son Ethan Plath, shares a special relationship with her siblings. Coming from a family of 9, Olivia and her siblings were raised in the same fundamentalist environment that the Plath family raised their children in. After breaking away from the conformity of their strict religion, Olivia and her brother Nathan have been close.

Nathan, who has lived with Ethan and Olivia in the past, has had a more difficult time adjusting than some of the other Meggs siblings. While Olivia’s sister Lydia Meggs, shown as Lydia Grace on Welcome To Plathville season 5, are often seen talking about the ways in which their upbringing has caused them to question their lives, Nathan has a tougher time talking about the past. He’s younger, so he’s still a bit more stuck in his beliefs, and after seeing he’s had legal issues in the past, clearly has a hard time separating his new life from his old one.

Nathan Was Charged With A DUI In March 2022

Nathan was living with Olivia and Ethan at the time of his arrest. He was charged with a DUI in March 2022. According to In Touch Weekly, Nathan was just 19 when he was arrested for driving under the influence in Tampa, Florida. The police report explained that Nathan, “was observed unconscious in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, while the vehicle was turned on, at the gas pumps of a gas station,” and he, “provided a breath sample of .087/.088% BrAC.” Nathan was well over the legal limit for blood alcohol, which is 0.08%.

After being arrested, Nathan was brought to jail in Florida’s Hillsborough County. He was released on a cash bail bond that was posted by Ethan and Olivia. Though Nathan’s DUI was clearly an extreme error in his judgment, Ethan and Olivia still felt that they needed to help take care of her brother. Regardless of his mistakes, Nathan is still their family, and they felt an obligation to make sure he was safe. Unlike the rest of the family on Welcome To Plathvillethey were looking out for his best interest.

Though his time on Welcome To Plathville season 5 has been short, Nathan has made an impression when it comes to viewers. Seeing Olivia’s life outside of her marriage with Ethan is always interesting, and including her family in the drama of the series is a bonus for people who love the show. Though Nathan’s legal situation is incredibly serious, knowing he had his sister and brother-in-law’s support is what matters most.
