Welcome To Plathville: Kim Complaining About “Judgmental Christians” After Divorce Is The Pot Calling The Kettle Black

Welcome To Plathville's Kim Plath complained about judgmental Christians in a recent episode, & many feel like she's being hypocritical in her ideas.

  •  Kim Plath’s newfound acceptance of her divorce contradicts the moral superiority she has projected as a Christian.
  •  Kim’s mental state has suffered as a result of her marriage to Barry Plath, and she is trying to rebuild her life post-divorce.
  •  Despite expecting support from her church, Kim has been judgmental towards others, including her own family, and now faces a taste of her own medicine.

Welcome To Plathville season 5 has shown Kim Plath in a new light, pushing some viewers to feel she’s hypocritical. Throughout the most recent episodes of the must-watch reality TV series, a new side of Kim has been on display. After her marriage to Barry Plath ended, Kim’s turned over a new leaf and accepted her divorce. As a Christian, Kim’s always felt morally superior to people outside of her religion, especially as she and Barry lived their lives in the public eye, promoting their faith. While this may not have been something she’s said explicitly, it’s clear through her actions that she perceives herself as “better” than people outside the church.

For Kim, who’s being shown throughout Welcome To Plathville season 5 trying to get back on her feet post-divorce, it’s clear that her relationship took a toll on her mental state. After years with Barry that were focused on their faith and family, Kim separated from her husband and moved into a new chapter of her life. Though she’s moved away from her marriage, Kim’s need to be validated by her community regarding her leaving her marriage has backfired, especially considering her church hasn’t been receptive to her divorce.

Kim Commented On Her Church’s Reaction To Her Divorce

In a recent episode of Welcome To PlathvilleKim made comments about her church’s reaction to her divorce, disappointed in how ostracized she’s felt after her relationship ended. “To blast somebody because they think you’re not living right,” Kim explained, “that’s not a Christian thing to do.” She shared that after divorcing Barry, she felt left out by her church and was put “on blast” by parishioners she thought would be supportive.

Kim Was Hypocritical In Her Judgment

Although Kim was valid to expect support from her group at church, it was tremendously hypocritical of her to believe that she shouldn’t be judged for her actions when she judges people constantly. Throughout her time on Welcome To Plathville, Kim has displayed one of the most judgmental natures of anyone in the series. Kim has very little room to speak on not being accepting of people’s mistakes. Her hurt over the way she was treated by her church was, sadly, a taste of her own medicine.

Kim’s Been Judgmental Towards Others, Even In Her Own Family

From her judgment of her own daughter-in-law Olivia, who she’s said wasn’t “living right” due to their religious differences, to her behavior regarding her own children, Kim’s been hypocritical in her expectations post-divorce. Though she wants acceptance and grace from others, she’s been quick to be judgmental and hurtful as she’s considered the way the people around her behave. Kim, who’s hopeful that she can find her place as Welcome To Plathville season 5 continues on, has to find humility before she can move forward.

Welcome To Plathville airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST on TLC.
