Has Ethan Plath Become the Villain of Welcome to Plathville?
Welcome to Plathville season 7 has taken a darker turn for Ethan Plath, and viewers are starting to see him in a new light. What began as a story of a sheltered family navigating the modern world has evolved dramatically since season 1.
With Kim and Barry Plath’s separation, the Plath children growing up, and relationships forming and dissolving, the family dynamics are constantly in flux. While various cast members have played the “villain” at different times, season 7 seems to have cast Ethan, the eldest sibling, in that role. He’s facing criticism online for his harsh words, controversial opinions, and how he treats those around him.
Ethan’s Tumultuous Journey
When Ethan first appeared on Welcome to Plathville in 2019, he was seen as likable, innocent, and deeply in love with Olivia, who is now his ex-wife. The couple’s split in season 5, which was reportedly finalized in season 6, marked a turning point. Ethan’s efforts to make the marriage work after their 2018 wedding were overshadowed by his rigid viewpoints and unwillingness to compromise, drawing considerable criticism.
Ethan seemed to expect Olivia to embrace a traditional wife role, which she wasn’t prepared to do. Now, in season 7, he portrays himself as the one who ended the marriage and the one who was in the right, a narrative that hasn’t resonated with many viewers.
His behavior towards his sister Lydia Plath’s now-husband, Zac Wyse, has further cemented his villain status. Ethan’s accusations against Zac, including implying he was gay during an interview and making comments about his masculinity to their mother, Kim, created an incredibly uncomfortable atmosphere, even in front of his middle sibling Isaac Plath. He also directly told Lydia he didn’t like Zac without any real justification, which left Lydia in tears.
Fans React: Has Ethan Gone Too Far?
The online reaction has been strong, with many viewers expressing their disappointment and disapproval of Ethan’s behavior.

Can Ethan Redeem Himself?
Ethan’s treatment of Olivia during their marriage, combined with his words and actions towards Zac, are not easily forgiven by Welcome to Plathville fans. To regain their favor, Ethan needs to engage in serious self-reflection and acknowledge that his behavior and criticisms are not acceptable.
With much of the season still ahead, Ethan has the opportunity to either improve his image or further alienate himself from the audience.
