‘90 Day Fiancé’ Stars Garner Backlash After Launching GoFundMe Amid ALS Battle

Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh have addressed their decision to start a GoFundMe to raise money following Jenny’s ALS diagnosis.
Jenny Slatten and Sumit Singh have addressed the backlash they received following their GoFundMe to raise money following Jenny’s ALS diagnosis. The couple, best known for their time on the hit TV show 90 Day Fiancé, launched a GoFundMe on May 20, with the aim of raising $250,000 to help cover medical expenses.
“I will try to make her life as easy as possible,” Sumit said in a video posted to Instagram. “And, you know, people are also asking, ‘Why do we need money?’ Because it’s required. Yeah, insurance in India— we don’t have it. Obviously, Jenny is not in America because she cannot travel by herself. And its not easy to travel for that long. And it’s not easy for me to get a visa.”
Sumit then explained that relocating to America would come at a high cost, noting they would only make the move if it provided Jenny with a “better solution” for her care.
“America is expensive. It’s going to take a lot of money to travel there, live there, even if we live with Jenny’s family. People are saying why Jenny is not going there. I’m at least here to make sure Jenny is doing well, or whenever she needs me, I try to be available. And if she goes to America, then she has dollars, but they have their own family, they have their own life. I don’t want to be a burden.”
The 90 Day Fiancé Star Was Diagnosed With ALS in December
During a recent interview with PEOPLE, Sumit revealed that Jenny received her ALS diagnosis in December, 2025. The diagnosis came a year after she had begun displaying symptoms.
“Sumit tells PEOPLE that Jenny’s first symptom appeared in December 2024 when she choked “badly” while drinking water. Soon after, she began to deal with migraines and had trouble swallowing pills.”
Jenny and Sumit are clearly looking for the best possible way to ensure she gets the high level of care she needs. ALS is a fatal disorder. However, according to Page Six, “doctors have told the pair that the progression of Slatten’s ALS “is slow.” For now, they are exploring possible treatments for the disease, which currently has no cure.”
The couple’s GoFundMe has raised $68,725 so far, just 28% of their overall goal.
