‘Welcome to Plathville’ Star’s Romance Bombshell Leaves Cast Member in Tears
A star of TLC’s Welcome to Plathville dropped a romance bombshell during the series’ latest episode. The comment left one cast member in tears, and fans heavily divided.
During the Aug. 5 episode of the TLC series, Lydia Plath and her big brother, Ethan Plath, had a heart-to-heart conversation about her wedding plans with Zac Wyse. Ethan felt Lydia was rushing into marriage and wanted to understand her urgent need to tie the knot.
Lydia shared that her decision to marry was influenced by her plans to attend a ministry program in Germany. Reportedly, her pastor advised that if she and Zac wanted to go together, they should tie the knot first.
“I was talking to my pastor about it, and he was just like, ‘I would totally recommend you guys going together, married,’” Lydia explained. “And the first month of our marriage is just being poured into and really just receiving from the Lord.”
However, Ethan felt differently. He said in a confessional, “Me and Lydia are very different in our reasoning and our thoughts and where we place value. I believe in God. God has given all of us free will, and so with that free will comes the ability to make your own decisions and to take the consequences of those decisions.”
He continued, “I think leaving such big parts of your life open to the decision of someone else, whether that’s God or other men or people, leaves you open to being manipulated,” he tells cameras. “She’s a blank slate ready to be written on, and I just worry about who’s going to do the writing.”
The clip switched to the siblings’ discussion, where Ethan revealed to his sister that he didn’t like Zac. “I’m just being honest with you,” Ethan plainly stated.
“I just don’t like him, but I don’t know if that’s because I don’t know him yet or if it’s just because I’m being protective of you. It’s all really fast,” he concluded.
His comments caused Lydia to burst into tears. Ethan hugged her while she cried, but didn’t provide further context for his statements. Nor did she elaborate further on her decision.
This moment sparked division among the Welcome to Plathville fan base. They shared their remarks regarding the uncomfortable moment, which was shared on Instagram.
“Omg let Lydia do Lydia. This kid was having prayer vigils 6 years ago under the stairs for goodness sake! She’s met her person so go Lydia go! Be happy girl!!!” wrote one follower.
“He is making so many valid points. She needs to really take them to heart,” said a second viewer.
A third noted, “Ethan is just being protective but he can’t also say he doesn’t like someone he doesn’t fully know.” Finally, a fourth fan penned, “Makes me sad to see her cry.”
Lydia Plath and Zac Wyse ultimately married in February 2025. Welcome to Plathville airs Tuesdays at 10 pm ET on TLC.
