Sister Wives: What We Know About Christine Brown’s Life Before The Show (She Was In A Documentary)

Christine Brown’s past before she started her reality TV career with Kody Brown is a controversial one. Christine’s family had a lot to do with it.

A close look at Christine Brown’s past before Sister Wives now that she’s married the new love of her life, David Wooley. So far, 17 seasons (and counting) of Sister Wives have featured Christine, who has been a part of a plural marriage with Kody Brown. The third wife of Kody, Christine, has been blessed with six biological children with the reality TV show star. Christine and Kody got married in 1994 and split 25 years later in November 2021.

Her unhappy life in Flagstaff, Arizona, was one of the reasons why Christine decided to end her marriage with Kody. Her married life lacked romance. She wanted a monogamous man who loved her and wanted to be with her intimately. Christine and David met on stir.com, a website for single parents. Christine began dating David, a father of eight and grandfather of ten, and the duo announced their engagement in April 2023. Christine, now 51 years old, is done being one of polygamist Kody’s four wives. Now that she had left the church, Christine may have never predicted her current life in her wildest dreams when she had asked Kody to be a part of his family.

Christine Comes From A Long Line Of Polygamists

Christine is considered royalty in the fundamentalist Mormon sect called Apostolic United Brethren or AUB, also known as the Allred Group. Kody was attracted to Christine’s “pedigree.” He said she was a blue-blooded polygamist because her family lines in polygamy go “really, really deep” (via TLC.) Her family had been involved in polygamy for more than three generations. Christine’s great-grandfather was called Byron Allred. His son, Rulon C. Allred, was the founder of AUB. Christine’s father, Rex, was the oldest of his sons. According to the group, plural marriage is an important step in receiving the highest glory of heaven and becoming “celestial.” Christine had joked about Kody marrying her for the “title.

As reported by CheatSheet, Christine starred in an HBO documentary in 2007 and on 48 Hours in 2007 to discuss her life before plural marriage. Her appearances were meant to educate people about polygamy, according to a lawsuit that the Brown family filed in 2012. It was years before Sister Wives began airing in 2010. Interestingly, Kody tried to make it look like Sister Wives was also an educational show.

Christine had lectured at the University of Utah in 2009. Christine’s grandfather Rulon had many child brides. The AUB believes polygamy is required for exaltation in heaven so one can enter the highest level of the celestial kingdom to become a “god.” Rulon allegedly had at least three underage brides (via CheatSheet.) His polygamy-related crimes had led to his imprisonment twice. Christine discussed her polygamist background openly before Sister Wives. She was a big supporter of polygamy, even if she was the first of Kody’s four wives to end her marriage.
