Meri Brown recently reflected on her rocky relationship with ex-husband Kody Brown during a podcast appearance. She revealed that even after their legal divorce, when Kody married Robyn, they planned to stay together, but issues kept piling up. Meri admitted their marriage was a roller coaster from the start, filled with highs, lows, good memories, and painful ones.
What hurt most was Kody’s refusal to work on their problems, which ultimately led to their split. Today, Meri says they still share a complicated bond. She wishes Kody well and doesn’t think he’s a bad person, but admits their values never aligned. She also confessed that it breaks her heart to see how his parenting has changed over the years.

During an appearance on the I Do, Part 2 podcast, Meri shared her honest thoughts about Kody’s evolution as a father. She explained that she doesn’t want to put any judgment on him. However, several things have changed. According to Meri, he did certain things better in his younger years than he does now. Parenting is one of them.
The Sister Wives star revealed that it breaks her heart to see how he no longer interacts with his children. Over the course of his plural marriage, Kody welcomed 18 children with wives Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn. He once doted on his kids, but now he has become estranged from several of them. The strain is most evident with the children he shares with Meri, Janelle, and Christine, while he tends to spend more time with Robyn and her children.
The shift hasn’t gone unnoticed by both his ex-wives, and the audience has pointed it out. Meri explained that Kody’s parenting style looked very different when he was younger. Previously, “They were his world.” She further added, “He was all about his kids, and they were everything to him.” That dynamic has faded over the years.
Meri further explained, “He’s got children who need him and want to have a relationship with him, and he’s not putting in the effort.” While she stopped short of accusing him outright, she emphasized that she simply doesn’t “see effort being put in where some of his kids really need it.” Despite her heartbreak, Meri insisted she doesn’t see Kody as a villain.
