Sister Wives: Kody Melted Meri’s Ring So She’d Have No Claim On Him?

Sister Wives fans are still reeling from Kody Brown’s shocking revelation about his former marriage to Meri Brown. In a recent episode, Meri opened up to her best friend, Jenn, about what really happened to her wedding ring. While reminiscing about her past, Meri revealed that Kody had melted down his wedding ring from their marriage.

The conversation soon turned emotional as she reflected on what that action truly meant. Jenn’s reaction, too, said it all as she didn’t mince words when describing Kody’s reasoning. But why did Kody feel the need to destroy a symbol of his first marriage? And what did Meri reveal about how it made her feel years later? Keep reading to find out more about the ring that sparked new controversy in the Sister Wives universe.

Before Meri’s confession aired, Sister Wives stars Christine and Janelle Brown had already addressedthe infamous “ring incident.” During the season 18 tell-all special, the two discussed how deeply Kody’s decision to melt his wedding ring had hurt Meri. “Meri’s very sentimental about the ring that she gave Kody, and I think it bothered her when he melted down the wedding ring,” Janelle shared. Christine agreed, calling it “really hard” for Meri to process.

The revelation came as Christine explained the background behind the gesture. After Kody met and married Robyn, Meri noticed that he had stopped wearing the ring from their 1990 wedding. When she asked about it, Kody casually revealed he had melted it down, saying he didn’t want Meri to have any “control” or “power” over him. The statement stunned both Christine and Janelle, who described it as symbolic of Kody’s growing emotional distance.

In the latest Sister Wives episode, Meri Brown gave fans her side of the story while on a trip to New York City with her friend Jenn. The two were chatting when Jenn brought up the wedding ring, asking if Kody had really melted it. Meri clarified that Kody had melted his ring, but she chose to keep hers. She also revealed that some of the melted gold was used to make jewelry for their kids, while the rest was turned into a necklace that Kody later gifted her.

Is the melting of the ring timeline accurate?

In her confessional, Meri admitted, “The whole thing was just weird. He did keep the diamonds and some of the gold and made it into a necklace for me. Years later, after I nagged him to do it.” When Jenn asked why Kody didn’t let her keep his ring, Meri recalled that he once said he didn’t want her to “have any claim over him.” Jenn’s reaction was blunt as she called Kody an “ass hat” for his reasoning.

Later, Kody defended his decision on camera, claiming he didn’t want Meri to feel she had “more claim” on him than his other wives, Christine and Janelle. But fans weren’t convinced. Many saw the move as symbolic of how Kody had emotionally detached from Meri long before their official split. For the latest Sister Wives tea
