Lydia Plath Speaks Out Against Her Family in Defense of Husband Zac Wyse: “Really Hurts to See My Family Saying Things About Zac”

Lydia Plath has refrained from calling out her family for their disrespectful (and sometimes downright strange) behavior over the last few episodes of Welcome to Plathville, but on Sunday she finally spoke out in defense of her husband, Zac Wyse, whom the Plath Family has made no secret about not being fond of.
As ‘Welcome to Plathville’ viewers saw, Lydia’s mom, Kim Plath, stated that she thought Lydia might be making “the biggest mistake” she’s ever made by marrying Zac, calling him “a bunch of red flags” that Lydia was “getting ready to make a lifelong commitment” to. During the most-recent episode, fans also watched as Lydia’s brother Ethan had a table-throwing tantrum while setting up for the wedding, and a plethora of Plaths had sour faces during the rehearsal.
However, it was Kim’s comments about Zac being controlling— particularly regarding the colors of the wedding— that pissed Lydia off enough to rant online.

“I feel the need to clear the air on something that was said this past episode,” Lydia wrote on social media. “The hardest part about being on a TV show is it breeds ground for people to talk to the camera and not to each other! Which is exactly what happened this past episode. My mom expressed her concerns that Zac was ‘controlling and usurping’ my desires around the wedding, and that’s the FARTHEST thing from the truth.”

Lydia went on to state that, despite what Kim said, Zac did not decide the colors of the wedding, and that they decided together, since Lydia didn’t have specific things in mind that she wanted for the decorations.
“It really hurts to see my family saying things about Zac and I that if they would have just come to us, and known us, it would have all been answered and clear that all Zac was doing in that month leading up to the wedding was caring for me and being there for me,” Lydia wrote. “He’s truly the most selfless man I’ve met and loves me in such a pure way!”
During the episode, Kim also claimed that she sees a “lack of initiative” in Zac, as well as a lack of him helping with chores. She was also upset that Zac and Lydia only knew each other a couple of months before getting engaged.
In addition to Kim’s negative words about him, Zac has been the target of plenty of weird, abusive and cruel behavior from the Plaths. As fans saw, Ethan, as well as Micah Plath and their girlfriends did everything they could to make Zac’s proposal to Lydia difficult— from setting fire to the spot Zac planned to pop the question, to Micah literally barrel-rolling into Zac and almost knocking him over.

Lydia— who has stated she didn’t watch the proposal episode after Zac warned her not to— has said that Ethan has since apologized for his behavior. She has been reluctant to call out her siblings and mom for their behavior in the past, but has apparently changed her mind.
“So let this be your reminder that gossip destroys and separates people. Don’t talk about people before you talk to them!” she wrote. “Yes! I talked to my mom before making this post because I have firsthand experienced the hurt from talking about people without talking to them, so I live by that rule! ‘A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.’ Proverbs 16:28”
Lydia recently stated that she has considered leaving ‘Welcome to Plathville’ many times, due to the hate she receives. However, Lydia received plenty of supportive messages from fans in the comment section of her post.
“Let’s be honest your family separates people,” one person wrote. “You two are lovely and need to stay far away from them! They hate everyone’s spouses!”
“Your beautiful soul shines through every episode…the minute I feel like you’re going to say something ‘snarky’ or ‘defensive’ you come out with one of the most classiest comebacks there could be,” someone else commented.
“The majority of your family have not been fair to Zac,” another person wrote. “Their main concern should have been if you’re happy and to trust your judgement! Clearly, your Mom and Ethan are not experts in the marriage department!”

Others encouraged Lydia not to let her family members— particularly her mom— off the hook for the things they said about Lydia and Zac during the episode.
“Did you talk to your mom about how she spoke about you to your siblings? She said you just wanted to be married to be married and really talked down about you,” one person wrote. “She doesn’t sound like she respects you or your opinion at all. Which is crazy because you pretty much raised her kids and took care of her house for her.”
(The person is referring to the fact that Lydia raised many of her younger siblings, despite only being a teenager herself, due to Kim leaving the family for a period of time.)
Kim has not yet publicly responded to Lydia’s post.
