In a heartfelt Instagram post, Janelle shared a photo showcasing stitches on her lip, turning a personal experience into a powerful message. “Posting this picture as a reminder to get your skin checked,” she wrote, emphasizing that even those diligent about sunscreen aren’t immune. “Even if you have ALWAYS been careful about sunscreen. I am and always have been. You have to when you are as fair as I am.”

Janelle’s commitment to annual skin checks led to the early detection of these pre-cancerous spots. “I had a basal cell carcinoma removed right after Covid,” she revealed. “I go in annually to have a head to toe check. Today I had 2 pre-cancerous spots frozen and a tiny lump removed from my lip.”

Janelle Brown revealed her cancer scare.

Acknowledging the inconvenience and slight discomfort associated with these appointments, Janelle stressed their importance. “Yes it’s a pain to schedule the appointment when you are busy. And yes there is a small amount of discomfort. But 2 pre-cancerous spots stopped in their tracks.”

Her message is clear: early detection can be life-saving. “Worth it,” she declared, concluding her post with the hashtags #skincancerprevention, #maketheappointment, #theworldneedsyou, and #yourfamilyneedsyou.

This isn’t the first time Janelle has spoken out about skin cancer. Back in 2021, she shared her diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma, a non-malignant form of skin cancer. In an Instagram post, she explained that viewers had noticed a blemish above her lip during Sister Wives episodes, prompting her to seek medical advice.

Initially, Janelle thought the mark was just a cold sore, a recurring issue for her. “I started to see what looked like a scar develop in an area on my lip where all of my cold sores for the past two decades have erupted.” But when it didn’t develop like a typical cold sore, she grew concerned.

As the mark slowly grew, Janelle tried treating it with scar medication. However, after pandemic-related delays, she finally saw a doctor and received the diagnosis. Janelle’s story serves as a powerful reminder to prioritize our health and listen to our bodies. Regular skin checks can make all the difference.
