An Exclusive Interview With Olivia Plath From Welcome To Plathville
For viewers of Welcome To Plathville, Olivia Plath comes as a very familiar face. In earlier seasons of the reality show, she was known as eldest son Ethan’s wife, but, since then, she and Ethan have split, and now we get to follow Olivia as she branches out to live a life of her own.
The latest season of Welcome To Plathville shows momentous growth for Olivia, following her new life in Los Angeles, venturing back out into the dating pool for the first time in her adult life, and how she decided to debut her new boyfriend on-camera for the very first time. In an exclusive interview with TheThings, Olivia doesn’t hold back about her truth.
Olivia Spoke About Showing Grace To The Other Cast Members
Perhaps the most commendable thing about Olivia is her incredible honesty and authenticity. She spoke about how she always tried to extend compassion to others and give them a second chance in a way that she hadn’t always received herself. This came up in the season when she learned that Ethan’s sister Moriah was releasing a song based on the falling out in their relationship.
Olivia said she was surprised hearing about the song, but that ultimately she took Moriah up on her offer to meet up and talk about it. Olivia elaborated on why it was important to her to give Moriah the chance to explain herself:
I didn’t feel like anybody gave me room to mess up and grow up, so if I can offer that to her as someone who was once a sister, I’ll hear her out. I’ll see what she has to say.
It seems like Olivia is taking the opportunity to rewrite the narrative about who she is to the Plaths. “Their family has this idea that I hold these grudges, and that I never let people change, and that I don’t accept apologies,” she said, “And I’m like, ‘Well, let me just show them.'” She explained that she always tries her best to listen and understand other people, which certainly comes through in scenes throughout the season.
That said, Olivia noted that while she doesn’t have “anything against” the Plaths, she isn’t currently in contact with Ethan or any of the other family members. “That ship has sailed,” she noted.
Olivia Shared The Importance Of Therapy In Her Journey
Olivia also discussed how critical going to therapy has been to her journey of self-growth, noting that, whenever she went back to watch earlier seasons of the show, she now noticed how “emotionally unregulated” she was. These days, it was easier for her to understand the reason why certain things were upsetting to her, and also for her to take a step back and view things more objectively. This comes as a huge step of progress, especially as it pertains to the Plath family.
Olivia gave the ultimate example that showcased her growth over the seasons:
I think if I came face to face with Kim today, I wouldn’t freak out. I think I’m at a place in my life where I’d be like, ‘Wow, that’s someone who didn’t treat me well and has their own issues, and it was never really about me. I’m not scared of her.
Olivia was adamant that therapy had helped her focus on herself and build the strength she needed to move forward.
Olivia Got Candid About Introducing Brendan To The Show
Perhaps the most exciting update of the season is that Olivia finally introduces her new boyfriend, Brendan. He makes his first appearance in Episode 10 of the most recent season, after Olivia has spoken extensively about the mysterious man she’s been dating long-distance.
Olivia explained that there was a “long conversation” between her and Brendan before they mutually decided he’d appear on the show. She went on to elaborate that Brendan runs on the shyer side, and that having his everyday life filmed wasn’t exactly in his comfort zone. That said, he told Olivia how much he loved and supported her, and in the end he understood that the show was an integral part of her life, so he’d agreed to participate.
When it came time for his debut on Welcome To Plathville, Brendan took precautions to protect himself from online backlash. “He’s not on social media. He purposely took a break because he was like, ‘I don’t want people’s opinions and comments and all these things being said.'” Olivia explained. She went on to share how great of a decision she thought it was. “I honestly really respect that,” she said, “I really respect a man prioritizing his mental health.”
For her part, Olivia said she doesn’t post very much about Brendan on her own social media. This time around, she’s hoping to keep her relationship more private where she can.
Olivia noted that, perhaps unlike her previous relationship, Brendan was incredibly supportive and secure, and that it made for a wonderful and healthy relationship from which she only continued to benefit. She pointed out that while Brendan had gotten some criticism from viewers about his hair and choice of clothing, she personally advocated for people to focus more on the content of people’s character and less on their physical appearance.
As we near the end of Season 6, Olivia teased that there will be some big moments in the finale that viewers can look forward to. She also hinted at a move that she herself makes, and no doubt fans are wondering if she’ll end up relocating to the East Coast to be with Brendan, bringing their time doing long-distance to a close. When asked about it directly, Olivia said that fans would simply have to tune in and see for themselves.
The season finale is set to air on Tuesday, October 1st, when fans will finally be able to get the answers they’ve been looking for. The entire season of Welcome To Plathville can now be streamed on Max.
