Jenny Slatten—who starred alongside husband Sumit Singh on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way—shared a health update hours after she announced her ALS diagnosis.

Jenny Slatten is sharing more insight into her wellbeing.

Hours after the 90 Day Fiancé star—who married husband Sumit Singh in 2021—announced she was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) May 19, she shared a small update.

As the TLC star wrote over a selfie of her and her husband on Instagram Stories, “I’m still able to walk around and Sumit is still allowed to smile.”

Jenny, 68, and Sumit, 38, also explained why they decided to wait before sharing Jenny’s diagnosis publicly.

“At first, we tried to keep it private because it’s been very emotional and overwhelming for us,” the pair wrote in a joint Instagram post May 19. “We were hoping to find some kind of solution before speaking publicly. But after trying for some time, we feel like it’s time to reach out.”

They also thanked fans for hoisting them up during this difficult time.

“Thank you so much for all the love and support,” they added. “Right now, we are open to any kind of help — treatments, clinical trials, lifestyle changes, or anything that could help treat this disease or slow down its progression.”

Jenny was diagnosed with ALS—also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease—last December, one year after she began experiencing symptoms.

The couple first knew something wasn’t right after Jenny choked “badly” on water, Sumit told People in an interview published May 19. Then, the reality star noticed she had trouble swallowing pills before eventually experiencing slurred speech.

After Jenny traveled to New York City for a 90 Day Fiancé holiday party, fans noticed her worrisome symptoms, and suggested she get evaluated for ALS, the couple told the outlet, which Jenny’s dad died from 10 years prior.

After the pair returned home to India, Jenny met with several neurologists to seek out an official diagnosis.

Initially, doctors believed Jenny had “a little clot” in her brain. But a second opinion confirmed she, in fact, had the neurodegenerative disease.

“We cried and held each other,” Jenny shared of the moment she and Sumit learned of the diagnosis, which she noted left them both “scared.”

As for Jenny’s treatment plan for managing her symptoms?

“Right now we’re just looking and searching,” Jenny explained, adding she hopes by sharing her story, “maybe somebody will come forward with something” that could help her.

And while she expects the diagnosis to change the course of her life, she’s just taking it one day at a time.

“I don’t want to be treated any different,” Jenny said. “Let’s just live our life as we have been while we can.”
